Send the Threads post you already have open into ThreadsVideoDL. The bookmarklet works in any desktop browser. A small unpacked extension is included for Chrome and Edge.

Paste a public post you have the right to save. Choosing Load media means you accept the Terms of Service.
Bookmarklet
Show the bookmarks bar. Create a new bookmark. Name it ThreadsVideoDL. Paste the code below as the URL of the bookmark. On a Threads post, click the bookmark. It opens threadsvideodl.com with that post filled in so you can load the media. If you are not on a Threads post, it asks you to open one first.

The extension folder in this project is a Manifest V3 extension. It adds a toolbar button. When the current tab is a threads.com or threads.net page, the button opens ThreadsVideoDL with that URL. It uses the active tab only when you click it. It does not run on other sites, and it is not listed in the Chrome Web Store yet. Load it from chrome://extensions with Developer mode, then Load unpacked, and choose the extension directory. Remove it from that same page whenever you want.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to install anything?
No. The website works alone. The bookmarklet and extension only save you from copying the URL by hand.
Can the bookmarklet see my password?
No. It reads the current page address and only continues when that address is a Threads URL.
Does it work on /share/ links?
Yes. Share links and /post/ links are both passed through.
