Why a Threads download failed

Most empty results are the post, not a broken button. Work through the link, the account, and the browser before you try again.

Start with the URL. A working link points at one post: it contains /post/, or /share/, or you pasted the post code alone. A profile, the Threads home page, and a search URL do not identify a file. Copy the link from the share sheet of the exact post, not from the address bar of a feed.

Next, check privacy. Open the same link in a private window where you are logged out. If Threads asks you to log in or says the account is private, the downloader cannot see a public file either. Do not paste a password into ThreadsVideoDL. There is nowhere for it to go, and you should not hand it to any downloader.

Deleted and brand-new posts fail for a boring reason: there is nothing stable to fetch yet, or nothing left. Wait a minute on a post that was just published, then copy the link again. If the creator removed it, no tool can reconstruct the file from the URL.

Text-only posts and posts with only a poll or a link preview have no video or photo. The honest result is “no public media,” not a blank MP4.

If the preview worked and the download failed later, the media link expired. Threads signs those CDN addresses for a limited time. Go back to the post URL and load it again. Do not bookmark the download URL.

On a phone, “nothing happened” often means the file saved somewhere you are not looking. iPhone puts Safari downloads in Files. Android puts them in Downloads, then sometimes in Gallery. Check the notification shade before you assume the button is dead.

A rate-limit message means too many requests came from the same network in a short window. Wait and try one link. It is not a daily quota on your account, because there is no account.

Frequently asked questions

Should I try another browser?

Yes if the first one blocked the download. On iPhone, prefer Safari. On Android, Chrome is a good default.

Can a VPN help a private post?

No. Privacy is enforced by the account, not by the country you appear to browse from.
